California for the TRUST Act

Before the 4th of July the California Senate Public Safety Committee approved the bill known as the TRUST Act by a vote of 4-2. For those who aren't familiar with the TRUST Act, the TRUST Act is a bill that limits what individuals the state and local police can hold for deportation. This bill determines which offenses will result in a deportation, for example a DUI conviction would result in a hold. In general, there will be no deportation holds allowed for immigrants for simple misdemeanor convictions nor those with prior deportation orders. As the bill continues to be processed by the California state, the Connecticut legislature has passed its own version of the TRUST Act and a similar bill is pending in Massachusetts.
